That's what I also don't understand. If somebody enters a house to kill somebody (in this case the parents), there is absolutely no incentive for that person to leave the son alone- alive he could be a witness, but dead he cannot be.
Shouldn't the penalty also reflect the severity of the crime? And isn't killing 3 people a lot worse than killing one?
