As a fifth generation Albertan I would have to say "no". I do consider myself Albertan first but most of the succession talk is a little to extreme for my liking. (My Great Great Grandfather moved to Cochrane from Virginia after the Civil War, so I guess we have seen in my family that succession attempts can be costly) Not having a sea port could be a problem for trade. Others have also mentioned that once the oil dries up Alberta doesn't really have an economic advantage, especially with cattle in the toilet.
I grew up in a area that would love to see an independent Alberta. I haven't talked to anybody back home since the feces hit the fan on Parliament Hill. But I can just hear the words, bullet, head, used in numerous sentences when referring to Dion and Layton. (although that kind of talk would have been common before the recent events in Ottawa).
