Why do people seem to think that just because they don't like an artist, the the artist is crap?

I personally don't care for Nickelback, and change the station when they come on the radio. But with the success they have had it is very clear that they are liked by a very broad spectrum of people, and I'm pretty sure that they don't need to milk any success since their latest album released a couple weeks ago seems to be doing pretty well:
