The problem with student politics is that you often get "radicals" involved who dont represent the majority of the student population. Voter apathy is huge at most universities as most students have many other priorities. Therefore you get a small number of people who run for student office and a small number of students who vote. This results in radicals, specials interest groups, etc in being able to gain control of the student government and being able to push through their own agendas.
It gets even worse at schools that known as being havens for these types of nutjobs.
