Really? I don't think so but perhaps I'm biased. I thought that Clive Anderson was superb as the host. Very quick dry wit. If you aren't quick you miss his asides. His 'feud' with Greg Proops was hilarious. Also, the British version was raunchier and definitely edgier than the American version. The early years also had the likes of Josie Lawrence, Tony Slattery, and Mike McShane who were really good. To each their own I guess as they're both good. The British version is better though!
