Right, come to think of it, the lawn edge in my backyard under the spruce is receding. Have to move the underground sprinklers this year because of it. However, it's only the grass directly under the branches, nothing further out. I thought it was just the sun, never knew they were acidic. CP comes through again!

As to the tree kermitology was thinking about.... it's probably a Birch tree. The bark is white and peels off like paper. Come to think of it... I think it's called a Paper Birch tree.
