IMO, Chuck definitely fits in the Comedy category. It certainly isn't a drama.


I do think we need a definition of sitcom vs open comedy though.

Right now, Arrested Development is in open, but although it wasn't a standard 3 camera, shot on a soundstage in front of an audience "sitcom", it was still a sitcom. The same could be said for Entourage, or any of the shows on NBC's Thursday night lineup this season, for that matter.


In the most basic sense, a sitcom is any comedy featuring recurring characters in "everyday" situations. Of course, the situations most sitcom characters find themselves in aren't typical situations that you or I would find ourselves in, but that's where the comedy comes from.
