That's the thing...

Why does the Mayan calender end then? Simple... it's because Mayan civilization was destroyed and their calender system became obselete. When the time would have come to write a new calender (likely a few decades before 2012), someone would have started work on it.

Do people really think that Mayans would have created an infinite calender? Not to be rude, but western civilization hasn't even done that and the Mayans were effectively a stone-age civilization when they were conquered.

As for real doomsday predicitions, does anyone know if it is true that there is a huge meteor heading towards the Earth due to hit in about 800 years? It supposedly has a 4% chance of hitting the planet (which in astronomical terms, is a pretty good chance).
