Blacks and Latinos voted in overwhelming numbers against it. Those two groups, especially the Latinos are quite conservative in their social values. IMO it was not a surprise that prop 8 passed. It's different when you are in a booth by yourself and the vote is anonymous then talking openly about it in the public.
