I am very pleased to make this selection. I am sorry to WindomUrl if you were going to pick this one, but as we discussed at the pub last week, it is one of my favorite records. I bought it mid 80's and have listened to it for over two decades. It never gets old.

When I first bought it, I read the album notes and there was very little information on the band. It was recorded in London England, so I assumed they were British. Imagine my suprise so many years later to learn that not only were the two leaders of the band Canadian, but they were from Calgary! Windom even went to school with them, again sorry.

They are guitarist Mark Bandola and bassist Rob Vandeven. And they are, of course, The Lucy Show!
I will put them, for now, in the 1985 category; until such time as I am told to move them.(I just got told to move them...edit!)

The album is Mania.

1. The Land And The Life (Vandeven/The Lucy Show)
2. View From The Outside (Bandola/ The Lucy Show)
3. Sojourn's End (Vandeven/ TLS)
4. Sad September (Vandeven/ TLS)
5. A Million Things (Bandola/TLS)
6. Sun And Moon (Vandeven/TLS)
7. Shame (Bandola/TLS)
8. Melody (Vandeven/ TLS)
9. Part Of Me Now (Bandola/TLS)
10. New Message (Bandola/TLS)

extra/new
11. Jam In E (TLS)
12. Invitation (Bandola/TLS)
13. Civil Servant (Bandola/TLS)
14. Sun And Moon (Live)
15. View From The Outside (Live)
16. New Message (Basement Demo)
17. A Million Things (Original Mix)

Band

Some reviews of the band:
http://www.thelucyshow.net/press.asp

"'Undone' (the first record) had seen the foursome make significant inroads with a moody, subconcious, contemplative yet beautiful LP that seemd an heir to Joy Division, The Cure, and The Comsat Angels. Whereas 'Mania' took those elemants and added a big slice of boisterous 60s pop, minor-psychedelia, and power-pop to form the brighter, snappier, more exuberant record you hold."
Jack Rabid, The Big Takeover

More from the above..."...sparkiling optimism of Bandola's Beatlesesque, melodic A Million Things and New Message. Yet it also takes in Vandeven's wistful nostalgia on Land and the Life (about Calgary!!), his John Ford-cinematic Sojourn's End (the psychedelic guitars near the end are fantastic), and his thin line between love and hate on Sun and Moon. Meanwhile, Bandola morphs from cheerfulness to Shame's revulsion over global indifference to apartheid."

Here you can listen to a couple songs:

There was a video for A million Things that got MTV airplay. It is on YouTube.
Too bad I could not find Land and The Life, View From the Outside, Sojourns's End, or Shame on the internet.

I cannot reccomend enough. Will loan 1985 record or new release CD to any that want to hear and can't find it.
