Is it unfair that the NE Pats had to even play in the NFL playoffs? They were by far the best team yet they lost to an inferior one. Should they not, by your logic, have simply been awarded the championship?

The 94 Det Red Wings are the best team ever in the regular season yet they lost in 4 games to the NJ Devils because the Devils used the trap and contained the Wings.

There are so many other examples I could bring up. The purpose of a playoff system is to weed out the weaker teams and allow the best of the best to compete for a championship. College FB doesnt' have this. They let the voted upon best two teams compete. Completely arbitrary.

I can't for the life of me understand why you would support the current, and completely ######ed system that they currently use. Especially since going unbeaten is so important. Texas may only lose to Texas Tech yet even if they are clearly the 2nd best team in the nation they will not make the BCS because another unbeaten team cannot be left out. Even worse was the Michigan vs Ohio State from a few years ago where they most certainly should have played again the the National Championship game and it could not happen because they don't want a rematch in the BCS game.
Not bad points to argue until this one. For two reasons, that game was incredibly important, the entire country watched it and it had a playoff atmosphere. In a playoff that game would have been useless and nobody would care. We had a playoff game, a great one, and you want to just wipe it off the map. Secondly and more importantly what we learned that year is that both teams were no good and had no reason to be in NC contention.

It's different than other sports. The NC is less important or at least should be. I see the biggest problem with the BCS is that it is growing a new set of fans who are fixated on a NC. Who cares, enjoy the holidays and all the bowl games. 26 teams will end their season with a win, a ring from a bowl and the fans will have a big party at whatever bowl they are at.
