I've actually always been impressed with the almost universal support in Canada for Remembrance Day and displaying the poppy.
Even in junior high, nobody joked, people wore poppies, it was taken seriously.
I don't think this has changed, but I think we can probably expect it to in another 20 years when there are no veterans of WWII around anymore, and young people haven't grown up knowing a family member who fought in a war.
