They lost a close game in a tough environment to a mediocre team and that was bad by them, but there is no way that they are the 7th best team in the nation and no way they should have dropped places in the BCS.
Georgia was ranked 1st but have looked bad this year since that rating. They were easily beat by Alabama at home, had a lot of help from the refs and opponents to beat South Carolina and have maybe one decent win on their record against a down LSU team.
The SEC will continue to get press from preseason rankings and beating up on Div. 2 teams but this year they are not close to the level that they have been in the past.
I hope that USC gets to play a Texas or SEC team so they can kill them in the bowl game. Unfortunately it won't matter much as some team will get to trump around some bogus trophy for being lucky enough to go undefeated. If only there were a better way to decide who is the best team in the nation rather than guess at who played the tougher schedule and whether or not a loss to team A is better than a loss to team B.

You won't find too many people that are around football that would ever compare the Pac10 to the SEC. Yes USC can't help it ... to an extent (they could push for a championship game which would help ... but I've never heard of them doing that), but that isn't relevant. You can't rate them higher because of pity for USC's schedule. Thinking the quality of football is comparable is just funny. It's my favorite football to watch, but its soft compared to SEC, timing isn't as important and it's not nearly as tough.
Look, beat a extremely mediocre OSU and then they are #2 or #3.
And I don't get how Alabama beating Georgia says the SEC is bad. It just says that preseason rankings are bad.
