CFL Individual Award Nominees
The CFL named the nominees for individual awards a few days ago. They will announce the finalist per division on Tuesday, November 4th.
Let say you have a vote for the winners, who are you going to pick as Finalist for both division, then pick the overall winner and why?
Here are the nominees:
Outstanding Player:
WEST:
Saskatchewan - Wes Cates
Calgary - Henry Burris
Edmonton - Ricky Ray
BC - Cameron Wake
EAST:
Montreal - Anthony Calvillo
Toronto - Dominique Dorsey
Hamilton - Chris Thompson
Winnipeg - Doug Brown
*** I have to think that Henry Burris is a better pick over Anthony Calvillo on the Outstanding Player Award. I am not saying this because I am a homer but if you look at both division, you will see how tough and competitive the West Division are compare to the East Division. Burris had to play BC Lions, Saskatchewan and Edmonton a lot more than the easy target Toronto, Hamilton and Winnipeg. Finalist: Burris vs Calvillo
Winner: Burris
Outstanding Canadian:
WEST:
Saskatchewan - Gene Makowsky
Calgary - Mike Labinjo
Edmonton - Kamau Peterson
BC - Paris Jackson
EAST:
Montreal - Ben Cahoon
Toronto - Andre Talbot
Hamilton - Ray Mariuz
Winnipeg - Doug Brown
****This is the year for the West to dominate the Individual Awards. My pick Mike Labinjo has been awesome all season and he is a QB nightmare when he plays. In the East, who else you can pick other than Ben Cahoon. The only way Cahoon will win this award over Labinjo is if the voters look at the stats. Finalist: Labinjo and Cahoon.
Winner: Mike Labinjo
DEFENSIVE PLAYER:
WEST:
Saskatchewan - Maurice Lloyd
Calgary - Shannon James
Edmonton - Jason Goss
BC - Cameron Wake
EAST:
Montreal - Keron Williams
Toronto - Willie Pile
Hamilton - Chris Thompson
Winnipeg - Doug Brown
**** I have no idea what the voters is smoking if they don't pick Cameron Wake as the Defensive Player of the Year. The guy is a monster and he's been picking on every single OLine he faced except the Stamps.
Finalist: Wake vs Williams WINNER: Cameron Wake
OFFENSIVE LINEMAN:
WEST:
Saskatchewan - Gene Makowsky
Calgary - Rob Lazeo
Edmonton - John Comiskey
BC - Jason Jimenez
EAST:
Montreal - Scott Flory
Toronto - Taylor Robertson
Hamilton - Marwan Hage
Winnipeg - Dan Goodspeed
**** This is the year for the Stamps. Lazeo started as a guard when he gets to Calgary and now he is the full-time center for the team. He is a big influence to the 3 rookie OLinemen Stamps have as a starter. Him and the hogs always gives Burris and Reynolds lots of room.
Finalist: Lazeo vs Flory WINNER: Rob Lazeo
ROOKIES:
WEST:
Saskatchewan - Weston Dressler
Calgary - Dimitri Tsoumpas
Edmonton - Tristan Jackson
BC - Stefan Logan
EAST:
Montreal - Larry Taylor
Toronto - Kenny Heatly
Hamilton - Prechae Rodriguez
Winnipeg - Brendon LaBatte
**** I really think Tsoumpas got a shot of winning this award, unfortunately the voters will look at the stats and they will see Dressler is top among rookies. I have to say these two players would have been the Finalist but they both play in the West.
Finalist: Dressler vs Rodriguez WINNER: Weston Dressler
SPECIAL TEAMS:
WEST:
Saskatchewan - Luca Congi
Calgary - Sandro DeAngelis
Edmonton - Tristan Jackson
BC - Ian Smart
EAST:
Montreal - Larry Taylor
Toronto - Dominique Dorsey
Hamilton - Nick Setta
Winnipeg - Graeme Bell
***** Mr. Automatic Sandro DeAngelis is my pick to win unfortunately my vote does not count. I have to think that CFL voters will pick Tristan Jackson vs Dorsey due to their stats. But in the meantime Snadro is always there when Stamps needed some points. Cocah Hufnagel never even think twice when it comes to making decision if he can put Sandro for a field goal or not. My finalist: DeAngelis vs Dorsey WINNER: DeAngelis
