Didn't I hear somewhere that the pod race was an homage to the chariot race in Ben Hur? Not many people complain about that.
And George says during his commentary on the Episode II DVD that the prequels mirror a lot of what happened during the original trilogy.
Guess you're not much of a fan of the original trilogy either.
