Here is a email from someone we know in iceland right now... The names have been removed because this is .. well... the intertoobs...
Quote:
Hi. Well, these are bad bad times. 2 of our 3 banks have gone bankrupt, and the third one is one itīs way, Iīm told. The government have taken over the banks and are trying to save what can be saved but itīs bad here now. Businesses are going bankrupt left and right this week, people are losing their jobs, food is scarce and everything is getting more expensive than you could dream of. Since last week, food and clothes and stuff has gone up 50% percent but thatīs just the start, we think food at least will go up almost 100%, even more. Lots of people wonīt be able to buy food, let alone pay bills. Our government is trying to tell us something each day, but with each of them, the news get worse. People are really confused and getting real scared. I know I will keep my job, but that doesnīt pay well (but at least I have a job). has his job and will have, IF the business doesnīt go bankrupt. I went shopping yesterday and there was no pasta left, no wheat, no sugar, no canned goods... I almost thought people were going to start fighting for the food in the aisles.
We have no idea what will happen, nobody seems to know. We are one of the ,,lucky ones" though, at least yet, we didnīt lose a lot of money, we have jobs at least for now, and we have food and heat, at least for now. But itīs sad, people are frightened and donīt know what to do :-( :-(
