I too feel I should offer my 2 cents.
I agree that it's the law and it sucks to get that ticket, but the bylaw officer was doing his job. Especially since there may have been complaints in the past. The by law officer may not have been allowed to give warnings, but assuming the OP was sincere about it, the bylaw officer didn't have to be so harsh.
On the other hand, the poster was venting his frustration on an internet forum and expecting some sympathy. He knows it's the law and since there was no around, it was judgment call on his part. Sure it may have come across as whiny and refusing to accept personal responsibility (a rant for another time), but he really got slammed by a lot of you on your high horses. Sure some of you may agree it's totally his fault, others felt sympathy and sided with the OP. There's no need for this thread to degenerate into names and warnings from the mods.
Personally, I think a warning would have been enough assuming the officer was allowed to give them.
Lastly, for those straight arrow posters, do I assume than you drive exactly at 30km/h on school zones, maintain a 2 sec following distance behind the car ahead of you, don't smoke pot (see past CP thread), wear a seatbelt in the back seat of the cab, or jay walk?
