You see, I like Peta. They serve two useful purposes in this world. Neither is what they intend, mind you, but that's life.
First, they are akin to the state fair or circus side show. People in general like to go see the bearded lady or the super strong midget because it makes them feel better about themselves. "At least I'm not a freak like they are." Peta is the freak show of the lobby group set. Nobody actually cares what PETA has to say or what their goals are, we just want to look and point. PETA gives us exactly what we want, but are completely oblivious to the fact that doing so does not help their aims.
Second, they are a form of economic Darwinism. Frankly, only the gullible support groups like PETA, and it is better that they throw their money away to an ultimately harmless and useless group than give that money to anyone who can actually cause harm to the world.
