There have been a couple peer reviewed studies about green tea helping to increases metabolism, but these were in very specific cases (ie the participants took part in fairly strict diets). Certainly the antioxidants are good, but if you're looking for ways to prevent cancer - eating ample amounts of fruits and vegetables every day has been shown to be one of the best ways to do so.

Certainly green tea is healthy, but I would recommend staying away from pills. All of the good that may come from green tea could potentially be negated due to things such as preservatives or things taken out. I'm not sure if it would be considered an ergonic acid, but if it is then they may make any claims they want (as regulated by the FDA), so long as they list all the ingredients. What I'm trying to say is the majority of pills/supplements out there are crocks.

Since by drinking green tea you are essentially adding wellness to your diet (like adding another fruit/vegetable a day sort of thing), it would be silly to contradict that intention and take it in supplement form.
