I really don't understand this whole "Oh don't vote for the Cons, they'll just fata everything up!" arguement.
You mean to tell me that the Tories, who have some of the best economic minds in the world, let alone Canada, are going to destroy everything this nation has come to stand
for?

Fiscally, I'm moderately right-leaning anyway, so I'm not worried about how a potential CPC government would manage the country's budget (unlike the NDP, who really scare me in this department). I certain they would continue with balanced or suplus budgets as the Liberals have done for the last eight years.
It's the CPC policy towards social issues that bothers me. I'm a strong supporter of allowing same-sex marriage. The Conservatives would try to counter recent court rulings on this issue (seeing as how they tried and failed to kill the proposed bill last week). They haven't ruled out using the notwithstanding clause to block gay marriage, which
really bothers me, since to use the clause, by definition, is taking away the constitutional rights of certain Canadians. I disagree with only allowing civil union to homosexual couples -- seperate but equal is not equal. I don't trust the Conservatives to keep abortion as legal and available as it is now. Yes, I know that the party recently dropped their pro-life stance from their platform, but let's face facts; that was only done because they knew they were turning off a very large percentage of voters because of that policy. When so many CPC members have been outspoken critics of abortion for so long, I find it hard to believe that they've had a sudden change of heart on the issue and wouldn't push their pro-life agenda if they were ever in a position to do so. I don't trust the CPC to not send Canadian troops on misguided military adventures just to suck up to the US. Given that they were so gung-ho to go to Iraq, even with the absence of WMDs and ties to Al Qaeda, I can't see their position changing should Bush decide to invade Syria or Iran or whatever. In fact, it seems to me that Conservative policy in foreign matters almost always comes down to doing whatever will please the US the most in order to protect our trade relationship with them*, whether that's what Canadians want or not. Make no mistake, we are America's ally, not their lapdog.
*Oddly enough, Canadian exports to the US actually
increased despite us not joining the Iraq war. Funny that.
