It has been said that QBs get too much credit when the do well and not enough when they fail. I personally think that the O-Line has a huge bearing on the success of an offense, and rarely is it acknowledged.
I would tend to agree with you. If the Packers put Rodgers in that first year and let him get beat up behind that offensive line does he turn out the way he did today? It's not very often that a high draft pick comes in and starts at that position from day one of his career and goes on to become a superstar. Elway and Peyton Manning are two that I can think of, other than that Drew Bledsoe had a good career as a number one pick who started from day one...but who else, I'm sure there are others, but I can think of a lot of top 5 picks who didn't go on to do much starting from day one at that position.

It is a position where the player needs a lot of support from his team mates. The Packers were smart to jump on a succession plan for Brett Farve when they picked him though. It is too easy to say...well we have Brett Farve we don't need another QB. But it was a good chance to get a talented player who was a great value pick in the draft and groom him under a hall of famer for a few seasons before letting him have the team.
