Default Glenbow planning major public art gallery

Relating from the discussion of culture of Calgary and bridges, this was also announced today!

about time. Calgary is the only major city in Canada without a public gallery. It will fill a huge hole in the cultural fabric of the city.

Quote:
The Glenbow Museum is preparing to pitch a landmark, international-calibre art gallery to city politicians that backers say would fill a gaping hole in Calgary's arts scene.

The gallery, being championed by the Calgary Arts Development Authority, would rival other Canadian institutions and give Calgary the space to attract global exhibitions that supporters say currently bypass our city.
Quote:
The proposal is expected to be unveiled next month at a city meeting, where it will be one of the authority's 17 suggestions for spending $165 million in provincial funding the city earmarked for cultural initiatives.

They mention they haven't selected location, but they considering both downtown and suburban locations. Personally, an institution like this needs to be central - near LRT infrastructure and other cultural and tourist attractions, and hotels!

The perfect location in my mind would be the Louise Crossing site at 4th ave and 8th street SW - right on the city-owned land on the Bow river.
