So my question is this: If a friend/family member/significant other/co-worker, etc.. treats you to a meal and they tip terribly, is it rude of you towards the person treating you to pull out some coin and add to their tip? As by doing so, you're basically announcing to them that you think they're a cheap-ass tipper.
My MIL does not tip for anything. She gets her hair done 2X/week and does not tip, nor the Pizza delivery guy every Friday night.
We went out for the granny's birthday once, about 10 of us, and she paid the tab. Away from the table, I indiscreetly asked the waitress if there was any tip. She said no, don't worry about it, it's OK etc., so I gave her a cash tip of about 15%. I get embarrassed about that stuff also.
