Ok here's another tipping Q, though it revolves more around buddies. I'm going to school up in Edmonton, so naturally I've made alot of friends with people who are Oilers fans. With one of em, last year we started an annual bet that whatever team ends up with the better record at the end of the year, the other guy has to take you out for a steak dinner(so basically I'm gettin a free steak dinner every April ).

Anyways, so at the end of last year, after a close call down the stretch, I won the bet and we went out to the Keg, courtesy of my buddy. The bill came to $81, and he left $85. I was totally embarassed, as our waitress was decent I thought. Nothing amazing, but not worthy of a $4 tip. All I had was Interac, I had no cash on me because I knew he was paying, so there was nothing I could do. After she came and collected it, all I wanted to do was get out of there, but we ended up staying for another 20 mins while he rambled on about why the Oilers will be better than Calgary next year, all the while with me avoiding eye contact with our now annoyed-looking former waitress every time she walked by.

So my question is this: If a friend/family member/significant other/co-worker, etc.. treats you to a meal and they tip terribly, is it rude of you towards the person treating you to pull out some coin and add to their tip? As by doing so, you're basically announcing to them that you think they're a cheap-ass tipper.
