What is EMO?
Emo is like a post-punk, emotionally driven form of pop music. Some of it it is influenced by folk as well as metal. It can range from being accoustical or electric. Lyrics are usually meant to tell stories of defeat, sadness, despair, humility, and recovering from it. Not unlike a lot of country music, but for some reason, emo get a lot more bashers I think.

Back in my day (well, I'm not THAT old...), "emo" referred more to the angst driven indie groups like Fugazi, Husker Du, and Nation of Ulyses, as well as screaming metal groups. Today the term has somewhat changed meaning though, and now there is "screamo" and "emo".

At least that is what I gathered from reading about it. It's all a bunch of bs if you ask me. Music groups should be judged independent of genre IMO. [/b][/quote]
I agree. Everyone's definition of what is emo is different anyways. Just from what I've heard whenever I hear a nasaly whiney voice, with slow odd timed music I think emo. I say I hate that type of music, but there are bands here and there that fit into that category.

I try and judge music independent of category, I've given some of the bands I've mentioned in previous posts a chance, but I despise it. I have been told many times that thursday is a heavy band, but I just never see it, I've downloaded songs by them about 4 or 5 times now, and end up hating it everytime.

Kermitology, like I said above, when I hear a certain sound its just what I think, its such a broad expanding category these days.

Another band I've been listening to is Kamelot, their new album the black halo, its a pretty damn good album. I get an Iron Maiden feel out of them without the galloping guitars. Try and find the songs soul society, the haunting, and when the lights are down. Kind of cheesy at times I guess but I grew up on metal and I'm liking it, its kind of different.
