Don't know what they did or will do specifically but they could try applying to the Victims of Crime program (although this only provides compensation for injuries and not property damage). They could have also worked with the Crown to seek a restitution order against the offenders. I think the ship sailed on that one because I don't recall seeing restitution ordered as part of the sentence. Another option, and my personal favorite, is to sue the offenders in Provincial Court.
