Well, the way that I see it, if people get stuff stolen from them, likely they will get the money back from their insurance and go buy another one of what was stolen. Many will go back to the place they originally bought the item at. So Future Shop would make LESS money if they started informing people about a rash of thefts.
As a capitalist venture, they have no responsibility other than to do what garners the greatest amount of profit within the confines of the law.
