Personally I am concerned like everyone else about what is going on with the LHC. However, as a layman I do not know all the details, but the scientists involved in the project say that there is a very minuscule chance at something catastrophic occurring when it they fire it up, it helps to differ my worries as I tend to trust expert opinions on subjects that I am not an expert in.

Hopefully September 10th isn't a negative news day
