If you go first thing in the morning the UN security line-up is not that bad and you should be able to get through the entire tour well within 2 hours, maybe within 1 hr.
The UN was cool, but the coolest thing i thought was how 1970's it all was... it is so compromised as an institution, in so many ways and for so long, and walking around the grounds really shows it...
I love how when you go to the weapons museum section they talk about how the UN got SO close to banning land mines and but one or two countries held out, but they don't say which! These American women on my tour are like, "What kind of country wouldn't ban landmines, they are so horrible... " Gawd.... lol...
