But you are aggregating the entire white American south into a catagory reflecting state of mind and personal beliefs. Show me the statistic that proves the majority of white southerners were 'racists' in that era?
again when did I ever say majority?

If you asked me to define a stereotypical racist there are about 2 dozen traits that I could name, with many of them being mutually exclusive, and many of them slightly contradictory (i wouldn't expect and elderly racist to be a skinhead). John Mccain meets several of these criteria, as such I have made and educated guess that there is perhaps a heightened possibility of him being a racist. Get it?

Maybe another example?

I give you a lineup of three people and we know one is a racist just not which one.

There is a 6 year old girl from BC whose father is a doctor, a 24 year old guy from New York who is in graduate school obtaining his masters in philosophy and a 36 year old mechanic from Mississippi who doesn't have his high school diploma.

Which one of these three would you say has the best chance of being a racist?

You said the Mechanic? right? It's almost certainly not the little girl, it could be the young educated guy from an extremely liberal part of the country known for its tolerance but we all know that the mechanic possesses traits that we would associate with a racist, thus making him MORE LIKELY to be a racist.
