I've found that Harmonix (developers of the Rock Band series, plus Guitar Hero 1 and 2) know how to make note charts that feel much more natural and similar to playing real guitar than Neversoft (creators of Guitar Hero 3, Aerosmith, and World Tour). Playing Guitar Hero 3 on Hard or Expert is painfully difficult, and the note charts seem designed to be excessively challenging to play, rather than being a semi-accurate simulation of playing a real guitar.
Since the instruments will all be compatible with both games, I'll likely end up getting both, but I've spent WAY more time playing Rock Band 1 than I have with Guitar Hero 3 and will likely do the same with RB2.
Also, RB2 will allow you to import all the songs from RB1 (including the 200+ songs that are available for download), so it's a great value.

Completely agree as a fellow guitar player. I seem to have a much harder time playing GH than RB for some reason. I can play most songs on hard and a few one expert in RB but on GH hard is almost to difficult for me
