Its not like he was a big sports guy recently ..yes he was previous but he did lilttle othe rhten host the CFL pre-game post game the last few years.
Dianna Swain was there to give a female voice in there, but that was Olympic morning...I can't recall who did that previous and the "C" team. I enjoyed the laid back Hanomansing.
I know TSN was just working out of a studio, but Gino Reda was horrible when it switched to him...provided very sterlie coverage.
Didn't see the opening or closing ceremonies on CBC, caught the closing ceremonies on NBC. They were fairly unclear about what was going on, and skipped around and changed the program a bit (Domingo and the Chinese singer were placed at the end).
Not sure who the hosts on CTV/TSN/SNet will be, but Rod Black being the elder statesman will be in there, again likely along with Brian Williams. Black, for anyone who watches him on the CFL or golf or even figure skating will want to poke thier eyes out after the two weeks if he does do any hosting.
CBC seems to have had great ratings this year, much higher then Athens. CTV/TSN/SNet will have a breeze in 2010, being the home country broadcaster and all the scheudling perks that comes with that, and of course having no time zone issues. In 2012 where it'll be easier to judge the job they do.
Also, CBC is the premier broadcaster of amatuer sports and have been for years and years...most weekends on Saturday afternoon, you're watching swimming, Golden League track, swimming, Equestrian from Spruce Meadows, etc etc on CBC, something that TSN/Snet are well behind year in and year out. CBC has those announcers, TSN will either have to contract them out (Rauter and Anber were donw that for boxing this year), or throw in current talent (Jermaine Franklin/Roger Millions) to cover those events...events that they don't cover 202 out of the 208 weeks between Olympics.
Overall, although not the gltziest, solid coverage from CBC as always and although I am sure the TSN group will provide decent coverage, it won't have that same "comfortable" feeling that the CBC has provided every Olympiad since 1996 and previous.
