I think the difficulty is that often 'skeptics' which is a dirty word and improperly understood or rationalists are often painted with a very cold brush... We are party poopers to some.
The thing is, most of us who use reason, logic, science, etc.. We love the unknown, we love the possibility of discovery and learning something new. We are very much open to possibilities, much more so than most.
The only difference is we look at the situation, see if there is any logical validity to the argument and go from there. It is our premise that evidence is key and that without it wild ideas on what it could be has little merit.
If I said unicorns make crop circles, people would scoff at me. If someone says aliens, you get a much better response. Why? Well its obvious, some people wish things to be true and therefore give it validity and power.
Skeptics are not the debbie downers, we are just the part of society that reminds us not to get carried away with crop circles, bigfoot, loch ness, ghosts, psychics, gods, etc..
Doesn't mean we dont have imaginations and are open to ideas, we just dismiss ones we've rationally deemed to be something not only unlikely but ridiculous at times. I'm certainly open to ideas that would explain crop circles without human involvement, but of all these years of them happening, nothing would give me reason to.
Don't hate the skeptic, we are just the cold water to remind people not to get carried away.
