Hello all. i was torn between bumping this incredibly old thread or creating a new redundant one. i chose to bump.

i am wondering if folks could offer some up to date info on this topic. i am finally jumping to the new platforms from my 7+ year old ps2. with all the different models for each system, i still am not totally sure what i want. i thought i would post what i am looking to use the system for. so here goes...

i have been a pc game player for the past several years. when i first got my ps2 in 2001, i played a lot of madden and nhl. also have used it as my primary dvd player for all these years. i bought nhl08 for it last year as i thought it was cool i could play as the qc flames. the game is totally nerfed though. i also tried it out on pc. but when i learned that nhl09 on pc was going to be a crappy rehash again, i started considering upgrading to ps3/xbox360. my primary uses would be playing nhl09 and madden. those were always my favorite console games. i detest fps games on console as i am too stubborn to get away from a mouse and keyboard to play. so i most likely won't play a whole lot of other games. we do the fun stuff like dance dance revolution and rock band/guitar hero, but my assumption is those will be the same on both systems. i am intrigued by the bluray player in the ps3 as i would like to continue to use the console as a media player. with that said, i am still a throwback and don't download movies or anything like that. for some reason i need a physical disc to feel like i can watch a movie. regarding price, i can afford the more expensive ps3, but would like to get the best deal possible. regarding online play, i like that ps3 is free as i plan on being a more casual player. i also like that ps3 has built in wireless.

so what should i do? i have thought about trying to buy used as we have a couple gamestops down here in the quad cities. i think i even saw some refurbished consoles for sale online. if i get an xbox i worry about the rrod. is that still a problem with new models? any advice and/or insight would be appreciated.
