Count me as a skeptic in all regards. The vast majority are obvious hoaxes, and for me the more mathmatically complex the designs are, the more likely they're created by humans. But I have a hard time believing that all of them are created by garden-variety hoaxers, particularly those circles that have a range of phenomena that MIT students had difficulty recreating - magnetized iron particles in the soil and radiation. I'm also skeptical that humans have been creating all the crop circles in europe over the last 400 years, when the first admitted hoaxers only stepped forward in the last couple decades. If the circles then were human-made, they must have had very different motives from the humans creating them today; some occult ceremony? We have a lot of occult and pagan texts from that era, and no mention of creating crop circles, although those crop circles that did exist were explained as being the creation of a 'mowing devil'. Perhaps there were individuals who would try to scare others by making them believe that such a demon was in their crops?

I'm still waiting for an explanation that completely satisfies me, but the most likely is a combination of unknown natural phenomena creating a small number of simple circles complete with the radiation and magnetic anomalies, and then a large number of hoaxers starting with this basic concept and creating vast and complex designs, while generally ignoring replicating the anomalies.
