I've used a unit like this before and it worked pretty good for keeping one room cool. The hose has an end piece that tapers it into a rectangle about 1 to 1 1/2 inches wide by about 4ish inches long. Sears has a crap load of different models on for pretty cheap and varying BTU's. IRC, we had a 7,500 BTU model and it was borderline for one room. Something in the 10,000 range would probably work a whole lot better.

As for the timer, some of them come equiped with one but if it didn't you could just get one of those plug timers and try that out.
