my guess is that you have never swam? 50m and 100m are pretty close to the same (all out sprint, plus it is only 50m freestyle that is swam). Every other distance after that is quite a different swim. Plus There are only 2 events for the other strokes (100m and 200m for Butterfly, Back and Breastroke).
Freestyle - 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m (w), 1500m (m)
Butterfly - 100m, 200m
Backstroke - 100m, 200m
Breastroke - 100m, 200m
IM - 200m, 400m
Relay - 4x100m free, 4x100m IM, 4x200m Free
Is that really that many events?
