I know that Australia is a sports mad country and they will follow their swimmers all year round and will be in-tune with what is going on. They realize that the swimming team is in a bit of a decline and are pissed off that they're getting bronze and not gold.

Canadian swimmers who are doing their best times and more importantly results should be praised. For example Wilkinson who finished 25th in Athens and now 7th in Beijing is a great result.

But a World Champion like Hayden not making the final (after sitting out another race) is inexcusable. Maybe he was too busy taking pictures.

Results have to be taken into context. Most people who comment on the CBC site that icarus is reading probably haven't ever seen a swimming meet and just turn on CBC every Olympics expecting gold.
Oh I agree, I don't have a problem with someone who exceeds expectations by getting a top 10 finish when they ranked 25 in the world.

Though then it comes down to why send so many people. Maybe a smaller team that gets more cash is the solution. Why send a pile of people that have no chance of getting a medal?

The athletes though I'm specifically referring to are the ones that SHOULD have done better but have thus far pee'd the bed. Those ones deserve all criticism they get.
