But do we support/criticize our athletes between olympics?
I know that Australia is a sports mad country and they will follow their swimmers all year round and will be in-tune with what is going on. They realize that the swimming team is in a bit of a decline and are pissed off that they're getting bronze and not gold.
Canadian swimmers who are doing their best times and more importantly results should be praised. For example Wilkinson who finished 25th in Athens and now 7th in Beijing is a great result.
But a World Champion like Hayden not making the final (after sitting out another race) is inexcusable. Maybe he was too busy taking pictures.
Results have to be taken into context. Most people who comment on the CBC site that icarus is reading probably haven't ever seen a swimming meet and just turn on CBC every Olympics expecting gold.
