I think it's more about the the reason for the lip sync.
Apparently the girl who actually did the singing wasn't cute enough
for the stage.
That just plain sucks if that's how you base your decisions, and
Chinese "decisions" are under a spotlight these days.

PS. Anyone know how that scroll thing worked? Rolled up, unfurled,
people could walk on it, very thin. Looks like an interesting device.
