I had a friend back in high school who was jumped by a group of kids that he was feuding with (and it was his own fault), but if an adult had been there when he was jumped, it would have looked unprovoked.

Again, I don't know your kid, so I'll just keep it a general comment that people tend to attract these events when they occur with frequency. Parents also tend to have a strong bias towards their own kid. I know my parents thought I was an angel and that every bad thing that happenned to me was due to other people's doings. They didn't know half the crap that I was into. In retrospect, like most kids who get into trouble, I played the victim role pretty good and usually had teachers and such on my side.

I tend to agree with you.
I've found that 9 times out of 10 there isn't really such a thing as an unprovoked attack. Especially if there are adults around. Seems to me that if someone is going to randomly jump someone, they probably wouldn't do it in front of a teacher or some other adult.
