The same thing happened to me with my front tooth (except it was a stick not puck). It was broken right in half. What happened was they put a temporary filling over the broken part. I kept it this way for about 10 years but the thing would periodically break off every now and then so I got tired of that. I ended up with a crown. You will likely need a root canal if there are any signs of trauma from the blunt force of the ball (I didn't but likely will need one in the future).
