OK I have never been out east, but have been all down the west coast on numerous family road trips.
San Fransisco is an awesome place, really unique. You won't regret it.
Las Vegas was sweet obviously.
Not really a city, but if your an outdoor kind of guy, the Redwood forest in northern California is incredible with trees so tall they block the sun from the forest floor, and they are wide enough to drive a car through them.
Oregon state is beautiful as well. Lots of roadside "touristy" drap to do in these places.
I like Spokane too.
