Default Beijing Oympics: Games of the broken promises

And they just keep on coming. Looks like the IOC had a side deal.

"When Beijing was awarded the Games, China had committed to providing media with the same freedom to report on the Games as they enjoyed in previous Olympics," CTV's Beijing Bureau Chief Steve Chao reported.
"Now it appears it's not going to happen."
Human Rights groups say that the development is hardly a surprise.
"They are entering the heart of a system which is hostile to media freedom," Phelim Kine, Human Rights Watch spokesperson, said of the foreign media.

Looks like athletes are staying and training anywhere other than Beijing due to the polution. Here in Japan the Japanese athletes plan to train in Japan and make there way to Beijing a day or two before.

Canadian Cyclists avoid Beijing
"I think my main concern is to expose myself and my teammates to as little pollution as possible," Hobson said. "So the national team is going to be flying in very, very close to the day of our actual race so we don't have to train in pollution."
The 38-year-old Cambridge, Ont. native in said the team will prepare in Kyoto, Japan, which has a similar time zone and climate to Beijing, but without the high pollution levels.
