They were marketed as low-end Charvels in the late 80s early 90s. They, along with Jackson guitars are thought of as "shred " guitars, and with the rise of grunge rock around that time sales declined. They had Floyd Roses and it was/is common to customize them with EMG hbs. Also they are marked as Charvel Ft Worth Texas but none were made in the US. Most were made in Korea and I've heard that some were made in Japan. You can get one for about $200 or less unless it's been heavily customized. They're actually becoming kind of a "cult" item. In any case the Charvel San Dimas you see now have little to do with the old Charvels. They went through a whole complicated set of buyouts much like Fender. Wayne Charvel customized Eddie Van Halens guitar (pictired on their first album) long befor he was famous..then he sold the Charvel name to his employee Grover Jackson etc.etc. ad nauseum
