If I was in line somewhere with someone, and we were ordering separately, then who cares? I do this all the time- wait in line with a buddy, and then go to a different cashier. If someone ever said something to me about that being rude, I would give them a piece of my mind. Personally, I think you are making a big deal for no reason.
