Saw it yesterday. Thumbs up.
I am not really interested in super hero/comic book movies. I find most of them to be pretty meh. So when I heard they were making another batman movie, I didn't really have any interest. I never even bothered to see Batman Begins (although I want to see it now). However when I saw a preview I started to warm up to the movie and decided to check it out on Sunday (all the hype helped too).
I was very, very impressed. I thought the direction was excellent. I liked what they did with the sound/lack of sound. The story was good. Even though the movie was 2 and a half hours it went by fast. It didn't seem long at all, I was engaged through the whole thing. The action was awesome. The acting was great. Ledger as the joker stole the show. He deserves an oscar nomination for best supporting actor. And not as a sympathy vote either. I was completely amazed how he would go from creepy to scary to even more creepy to funny every sentance. I can't think of a better villain in a comic book movie ever.
While I thought the movie was superb. There was a couple things I didn't like. The whole sonar thing with the cell phones they could have done without. Too far fetched for me. I liked the two face character and the over the top acting, but the damage to his face was a little much. Also as a minor gripe, the hospital that they blew was tiny. For a city of 13 million you would think the main hospital would have been, oh, about 50 times the size. I'm sure the budget didn't allow for them to blow up a real size building (I mean they really blew up a building!) but that doesn't really affect the movie anyways.
I'll be picking it up on Blu-Ray when it comes out to watch it a second time. But as far as comic book/super hero movies goes, this is one of greatest that I have seen and I'm not really a fan of the genre!
