Great film. All the performances were brilliant, and even though they jumped right on into it, they really brought forward some of the secondary characters. In particular, Gary Oldman was great as Commissioner Gordon.

Christian Bale was also genius, negotiating three roles at once: Batman, Public Bruce Wayne, and the Real Bruce Wayne.

The real star here, though, is Heath Ledger. Absolutely brilliant performance. Somewhere between Hannibal Lecter and Don Corleone. Hard watching such a great character actor, knowing he's not going to be around to improve and develop his craft. I was a big fan of Brokeback Mountain, largely because of his acting, but it's nearly impossible to imagine this is the same guy who played Ennis. And even though his make-up was smeared throughout the film, you simply couldn't see him, but only the Joker.

Also major credits must go to Christopher Nolan who always knows how to get the best out of his actors, and knows exactly how to use them. Everyone had good screen time and the plot, though breakneck right from go, was well-paced.

See it. Just don't bring your kids if they are under 12.
