1. I've never heard of that before. Although I think an "18 Run" is a cool idea, I actually wish I would've done that.
2. Get a good night's sleep the night before, and have a BIIIG dinner before you go out, especially something with some carbs which will soak up the alchohol. And if you really, really get in a pinch(ie ready to puke way too early), sneak away from your buddies and get a water from the bartender, pound it and get back before anyone's the wiser. But I only do that if I HAVE to.
