And if he stole something in Turkey and their law says his hands get cut off, then so be it. Why do we think that we should be able to go to other countries, break their laws, then expect our government to come and stick up for us?
In this case, Khadr went to another country and attacked someone with a freakin' grenade. He's lucky he wasn't killed and frankly, the release of the "torture" tape doesn't support his case at all. He is questioned, makes outrageous comments about his eyes and feet missing, and is offered a break and some food. Heaven forfend.
If the US wants to take him out and strap him to a pole, give him a blindfold and a cig, then fire off a fine old salute... meh. Don't go killing their medics with hand gernades and you are sure to avoid such a fate. I have exactly zero sympathy for him or his family of terrorists.
